What Is A Thundredog
Though they are capable of breeding, the original Thundredogs were not born but made. Not actually dogs at all, they were created chiefly from dragon stock with certain elements of many of the most brutal beasts alive thrown in for good measure.
Ingredients of such animal attributes as an elongated, lupine head, rows of metallic, shark-like teeth, retractable, cat-like claws and a long, flat crocodilian tail are readily apparent at first glance of a Thundredog’s physical makeup. Created with organic components mixed with a large infusion of elemental iron, these monsters are just as much flesh as they are steel. Fully grown, Thundredogs are commonly the size of a bull African elephant, by comparison. Thundredogs are six limbed creatures of two slightly different types, Runners and Jumpers:
Runners are possessed of three pair of powerful legs and paws, each ending in foot long talons that serve as awesome weapons in combat, like fists full of swords. Also useful for climbing sheer surfaces and easily slaying prey a ThundreRunner's talons are its first line of offense when faced with mortal opposition. As a very close secondary mode of offense, a Thundredog’s bite is a fearsome thing to behold. After clamping onto a victim, the monster’s powerful jaws automatically lock into place and, with a simple snatch of its powerful head, the beast can separate large hunks of bone and flesh from a body with little effort.
Gifted with the power to manipulate the elemental forces of Earth, Water and Wood, a Runner is possessed of the ability to produce a variety of spectacular effects by the influence of said elements. Earth can be moved and/or reformed at a whim, trees can be repositioned or knocked aside by a simple force of will, and even rivers can be redirected with a concentration of thought. Such powers over the land make a Runner a terrible opponent when faced on land. Jumpers, while six-limbed like their Runner brethren, have a pair of powerful wings in place of a Runner’s middle set of legs. Able to cover immense distances in a single flight, a ThundreJumper attacks much like its Runner brothers, only from the air. Jumpers were given control of the elements of Air, Fire and Lightning. Brutal windstorms, compound lighting-strikes and fiery hail storms are all indicative of the command a Jumper wields over the elements. All Thundredogs have horns. Designed as bony protrusions that serve as handy armor against attack a Thundredog’s horns are also a source of vanity. The type and pattern of horn growth on any given Dog will always be completely different from one individual to the next. While one might be possessed of curling, ram-like horns, another would sport short, bristling spikes all along its back. Yet another might have sharp, Ibex-like projections from its skull, useful for charging and goring its victims. The possibilities are limitless. Likewise, the beasts come in a widely ranging variety of colorations and marking patterns from earthen tans with tiger stripes to midnight blacks beneath leopard spots to bright, pristine whites with no visible markings whatsoever.
